Chase Manhattan Bank Promotes Workplace Diversity

Diversity is the defining characteristic of what it means to work and do business with The Chase Manhattan Bank, the third largest bank in the US and one of the premier financial services companies in the world. We're building a culture where employees feel respected, where their viewpoints are important and where their contributions are recognized. Chase believes that our organization can only be enriched by the ideas and backgrounds that our Hispanic employees -- and, indeed, our employees of all backgrounds --bring to how we do business. Our many employee programs, from career development to our volunteer efforts to our training efforts, all work to ensure our Hispanic employees and our entire workforce are contributing their best to our company and its business objectives.

This includes devising innovative programs, like flex time and job share arrangements, or a wide range of career development programs, or an aggressive expansion of our onsite back-up care centers across the US - all of which ensures that we're doing our best to attract and retain the broadest range of employee talent and perspective.

Chase also offers a variety of employee networking groups and mentoring opportunities. Our employee network groups include our Texas-based Hispanic Task Force and the New York City-based Hola, which have been formed by our Hispanic employees to improve internal networking for Hispanics within Chase as well as to focus on business development in the Hispanic community. Activities include after-work networking events, coordinating informal "job shadowing" and such community efforts as a mentoring program with area Latina high school girls.

An exciting development this past year was Chase's agreement to sponsor the Hispanic Heritage Youth Award for Academic Excellence, which honored 45 of the country's top Hispanic high school seniors with $1,000 scholarships. Five of these recipients were chosen as national winners and received an additional $4,000.

Employee involvement is key to Chase's many diversity initiatives. It starts with our Corporate Diversity Council, made up of employees from all Chase businesses and functions. In addition, thousands of employee volunteers serve on business-level councils and task teams. Employee diversity champions at the local level, therefore, have a real opportunity to define those diversity issues they'd like to work on and actually implement programs and solutions.

By continuing to involve employees at all levels and in all locations in its many diversity initiatives, Chase hopes to continue to capitalize on both the internal and external opportunities that come from an inclusive, diverse organization.
