The employees, guest researchers and other affiliates with NIST represent an extremely diverse workforce including a large number from foreign countries. Along with seven multidisciplinary laboratories ranging from chemistry and physics to manufacturing engineering and fire research, NIST services for U.S. industry also include a cost-shared grant program for innovative, but high-risk early-stage technologies; a national network of assistance centers for small manufacturers; and the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The majority of the nearly 3,000 people working at NIST are scientists and engineers, of whom about 52 percent hold a Ph.D. and 90 percent are college graduates. A wide variety of job opportunities are available at NIST in the sciences, as well as in support staff and administration.
