Jazmin Sanchez Jonson received her BA from UC Berkeley in applied math with a computer science emphasis. She hasbeen a successful Silicon Valley engineer for 10 years. At Sun Microsystems she is a Java Internet developer and project lead. She was selected for an Achievement Award for her lead role on the Ultra Model project, which helps Sun supply management plans

and the components for Sun systems. Jonson recently transferred to the Sun/AOL/Netscape Alliance where she will build electronic commerce (e-commerce) applications for the Internet.

But she's not all work and no play. Her hobbies include playing volleyball and dancing - especially salsa, tango and Argentino. Her advice for young Latinos starting out is, "Success does not have a color or a gender. Believe in yourself and don't succumb to peer pressure. The road to success is lined with many obstacles, but with persistence, one can always reach his or her goals." She adds, "Even though the road may be hard, the rewards at the end are well worth the sacrifice."
